Vilassar de Mar ‘A’ began their International Carnaval Cup campaign with a narrow but hard-fought victory against Iniesta Academy (1-0), in the match played at the Municipal de Cabrils at 11:00 in the S13 category. The Maresme side competed strongly from the very first minute and made it clear they have arrived at the tournament with ambition.
The team coached by Àlex Fanlo showed defensive solidity and good tactical organisation, especially in the opening stages, when they managed to neutralise the opponent’s attacking moves. Even so, the coach stressed that there is still room for improvement in ball circulation and decision-making in the final third.
The match was defined by balance and the typical intensity of a competitive debut. Neither team wanted to take excessive risks, and clear chances were scarce in the first half, with heavy midfield battles and very few defensive mistakes.
After the break, Vilassar stepped forward and began to find spaces between the lines. Their persistence paid off with the only goal of the match, scored by Nil Corporan, who capitalised on a well-worked move to put his team ahead and break the deadlock.
With the 1-0 lead, the Maresme side chose to manage the tempo of the game, prioritising structure and defensive control. Iniesta Academy tried to respond with long balls and attacks down the wings, but faced a very alert defence and a compact block.
From the bench, Fanlo positively assessed the result but emphasised the need to keep improving throughout the tournament: the team aims to be more dominant in possession and create more chances to face upcoming matches with confidence.
Vilassar therefore starts the championship with three important points and strong competitive feelings, while fully aware that the journey has only just begun. This year the standings follow a single league-style format, and they are currently placed 22nd. The win boosts the confidence of a group that aims to progress through the rounds and consolidate their style of play throughout the International Carnaval Cup.
