A goal by Eric García in the 6th minute was enough to qualify the team coached by Edgar Domene.

A major upset took place at the Municipal de Premià de Dalt. Damm, who arrived after an outstanding league phase, edged past FC Barcelona by the narrowest of margins and produced one of the most impactful results of the International Carnaval Cup, knocking out one of the main title favourites.

Edgar Domene’s side struck very early. In the 6th minute, Eric García took advantage of a well-executed attacking move to put the Nou Barris side ahead and score the only goal of the match, a strike that would ultimately prove decisive.

From that moment on, Damm showed remarkable competitive maturity. They knew how to suffer during Barcelona’s periods of dominance, maintained strong defensive organisation and contested every ball as if it were the last, holding onto the result with character and focus for the full ninety minutes.

Even with the lead on the scoreboard, Domene’s team did not give up on attacking. In fact, they created several chances to extend their advantage, showing that their game plan was not only about resisting, but about competing toe to toe against a top-level opponent.

Barcelona, five-time champions of the tournament (2014, 2016, 2017, 2022 and 2024), came into the match with very strong attacking numbers after thrashing Clio Junior (12-0), drawing against St. Kevin’s (1-1) and comfortably beating CE Cabrils (9-0), as well as winning 2-0 in the Round of 32 in Premià de Dalt.

Damm, on the other hand, had already shown during the league phase that they were a very serious side, recording a perfect run of victories against Takumi Football Academy (0-7), Virginia United (0-2) and Genk (1-3), establishing themselves as one of the most solid teams in the competition.

Jordi Pérez’s team, with a squad full of quality, started as favourites on paper, but they faced a well-organised, intense and tactically disciplined Damm side that managed to neutralise their strengths for large parts of the game.

With this victory, Damm advance to the quarter-finals after eliminating one of the giants of the tournament and confirm their excellent form. A prestigious win that boosts the group’s confidence and will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the biggest upsets of this edition.

Special thanks to FC Barcelona for their participation and commitment, as every year, as well as for their excellent sporting behaviour.
